Some mornings your face wakes up before you do, puffy and heavy around the eyes. Cold helps. This is a simple way to put it on your face without an ice cube melting down your wrist.

What it does for you

It is a soft silicone holder that you fill with water and freeze. Unscrew a cap and you have a smooth block of ice. The silicone grip keeps your fingers dry and warm. Glide it over your face for a fresh, wide-awake feeling in a minute or two. It is a nice step before make-up on a hot morning too.

What's in the box

One silicone ice holder in the colour you choose, about 12.7 by 6.4 by 4.5 cm. It holds about 120 ml of water. It has two ends, each with a screw-on cap. The narrow end is for around the eyes, the wide end for cheeks, jaw and neck. The cap you take off catches meltwater while you work.

How to use it

Fill it with about 110 ml of clean water, leaving a little room, and close the stopper. Lay it flat in the freezer for at least six hours. Take it out and wait three to five minutes so the ice loosens. Unscrew one cap and glide the ice over clean skin in slow, light strokes, always moving. One to two minutes is plenty, and never more than 15 minutes in one session. Rinse the holder with mild soap and let it dry before refilling.

Is this the one for you

Yes, if you like a cold start to the day or want quick relief on a hot afternoon. Perhaps not, if you want something to use with oil or cream as a massage. Ice does not glide well over oil, and the Amethyst Facial Roller and Gua Sha is made for that.

Material

Silicone, named as food grade by the manufacturer.

Before you start

Ice straight from the freezer can burn skin. Wait the three to five minutes, and keep it moving the whole time. Never hold it in one spot. If your skin is sensitive, wrap the ice in a thin, clean cloth. Do not use it on broken skin, cuts, sunburn, rashes or new piercings. Stop at once if your skin goes numb, turns white or hurts, and let it warm up slowly. Do not use it if you have poor circulation, Raynaud's or reduced feeling in your face. Ask your doctor first. Around the eyes, stay on the bone below and keep off the eyelid itself. Do not overfill it, as water expands when it freezes. Check the silicone for tears before each use. Keep it away from small children.
