You do not need another bottle. You need the ones on your shelf to be doing what they were made to do.
Nine habits. All free. Most take under a minute.
1. Put your serum on damp skin
Not dripping. Damp. Pat your face with a towel, leave a little water behind, and work quickly.
Humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid pull water in. Give them water to pull, or they will draw it up out of your own skin instead.
2. Wait thirty seconds between layers
Pile the next product on immediately and you have mixed two things rather than layered them. They pill, they roll, and half of it ends up on your fingers.
Thirty seconds is enough for most things. Give sunscreen a full minute over a heavy moisturiser.
3. Warm oils and serums in your palms first
Three drops, rubbed once between the hands, then pressed onto the face. Warm product spreads further and you use less of it.
Press, do not drag. Dragging a serum across your face is how most of it ends up in your hairline.
4. Turn the tap down
Hot water strips the oils your skin makes to hold water in. That tight, squeaky feeling afterwards is not clean. It is stripped.
Lukewarm, always. Even in July.
5. Press the towel, do not rub it
Rubbing a rough towel over wet skin is a mild exfoliation you did not choose. Press, lift, move to the next patch.
6. Keep vitamin C in the dark
Light and heat oxidise it. A bathroom windowsill in a Highveld summer is close to the worst place in the house.
If your vitamin C serum has gone deep orange or brown, it has already turned. It will not hurt you. It also will not do much.
7. Your neck and your hands are on the same schedule
They get the same sun and almost none of the attention. Whatever is left on your fingers goes down the neck and over the backs of the hands.
Sunscreen especially. The hands on a steering wheel take more sun than most faces do.
8. Change your pillowcase twice a week
Oil, sweat and whatever you put on at night collect there, and you press your face into it for eight hours.
Two pillowcases in rotation solves it without a single extra wash cycle.
9. Add one new product at a time
Two weeks apart. If something stings, itches or breaks you out, you will know exactly what did it.
Start everything active every second or third night before you go daily. Skin that has never met a vitamin C serum will tell you so on the first night.
The one that is not on the list
Doing all nine on a Tuesday and none of them again for a month. Consistency beats intensity, and it is not close.
Pick two. Keep them for a fortnight. Then add another.
