In a drought it dries to a husk. It looks dead. When the rain comes, it greens again within hours.

That is the resurrection plant, and it grows on rocky hillsides across southern Africa.

Which plant this is

Several plants share the name. The one in skincare is usually Myrothamnus flabellifolia.

It is a small, woody shrub. It survives losing almost all of its water, then recovers when it gets wet again.

Why skincare is interested

A plant that survives drought protects its cells while dry. Researchers have looked at the compounds that help it do that.

It is rich in antioxidant compounds. In skincare, the extract is used for holding water in the skin and for the look of firmness.

What the evidence says, honestly

Most of the research is in the lab, not on human faces. It is promising, not proven.

So treat it as a supporting ingredient. It will not replace sunscreen or a good moisturiser.

What you will notice

If it suits you: skin that feels more comfortable through the day, and a little more bounce.

That is a realistic promise. Anything more is marketing.

Using it

Patch test first, as with anything new. A pea-sized amount covers your whole face.

Use sunscreen every morning. Firmness is lost to the sun faster than any cream can rebuild it.

When to see a doctor

If you react with swelling, burning or a rash, stop and see a doctor.

The Resurrection Plant Face Cream is a green gel-cream. The resurrection plant is its first named ingredient, caviar extract its second.
